William has been playing keyboards, guitar, singing, and composing for about
30 years. He has an interest in a wide range of music, but has always stuck
to experimental rock and folk-related styles for his own projects. Early
obsessions were Rush, Pink Floyd, Celtic folk and Bluegrass, improvisation with
synthesizers and signal processors, and then later all kinds of DIY and
experimental underground rock of the 1980s. He studied theory and composition
at UWO, where he was deeply influenced by minimalism, John Cage, Morton Feldman, and similar styles. He also teaches popular music history and cultural theory at Carleton University.
